Adam Robinson: Ah, so the play was a real thing you were working on? What happened with it?

Sheila Heti: It was a real thing. It was called All Our Happy Days are Stupid and it had ten songs in it that were written by Dan Bejar. I sent him the play, and he wrote the songs. When it was clear the play was never going to happen, he put a bunch of them on his album. This Toronto director decided he wanted to produce it, so it’s going to have a run in the spring of 2013. I decided to leave it exactly as it was when I abandoned it in 2006, to not rewrite it.
