She’s not just talking about her roles, either. Besides playing the love interest in both Hit Man and Cool Breeze (her two pre-Coffy blaxploitation features), she also played a major role in five films shot in the Philippines, for which she did her own stunts, under conditions that were somewhat less regulated than those at the major studios. (Not to glorify those conditions, nor the ones that led Grier make that remark about the availability of “sweet, pretty, demure parts,” but, you know, worth noting.)
