Skywlkr’s instrumental tape Impressions is my pick for this week. Sorry, but I still can’t keep a straight face when I hear that sub-par Crystal Method impression on the first track on El-P’s Cancer For Cure, so maybe it’s mind-blowing eventually. Just not for me.
Real talk: if you have to do that “yeah, that widely-lauded thing you like? I think it’s fucking lame” schtick in the process of big-upping something you like that might not be as popularly received? I will actively refuse to give a fuck about that thing you like, even if there is a good chance I actually will like it as well. This is not a rational response on my part, I admit, but I have never been compelled to look into something new by having something I already enjoy just subjected to an irrelevant, randomly tossed-off insult.
