AS ANYONE who’s read my voluminous writings on “American Idol” knows…– Pop music critics embrace the mainstream - Los Angeles Times - calendarlive.com (via offnotesnotes) Reading Powers’ piece was a little bit unnerving because it seemed to assume the existence of rock criticism as a community and as a thing which can spark wide conversations and debates, as opposed...
Sarah Jessica Parker Arrested For Gross Negligee– (via newsofthespamworld) On the one hand you’d think the pun would reveal the “headline” as spam but on the other it probably increases views anyway.

perpetua: rendit: Does anyone else find it of extremely ill portent that the Watchmen trailer features a Smashing Pumpkins song from the Batman and Robin soundtrack? It’s intentional, they want you to think about those 90s Batman movies when you see the trailer. (See also: the molded nipples on Adrian Viedt’s costume.) The director is deliberately trying to get people to approach the characters...

me: if that show were at webster hall i would so be there
Lindsay: you a loser
me: i'm thinking of posting a tumblr entry to that effect
Lindsay: feel free to quote this conversation
me: because as always
me: i want to pursue the meta/self-defeating goal of rising above bourdieu's "distinction"
me: by proving that i am not embarrassed of any of my musical preferences
me: and therefore not jockeying for cultural capital
Lindsay: but you are:
Lindsay: you like that one band of horses song
Lindsay: you're embarrassed about that.
me: yeah that and a bunch of august and everything after
me: oh and that coffeeshop-sounding austin dude's joanna newsom cover
Heiko Hoffmann (Pitchfork): Both Daft Punk and Justice make dance music that a lot of people who don't usually listen to dance music like.
Pedro Winter (Ed Banger): You're right. But that's not a strategy, it's a coincidence. Maybe Justice's sound is closer to that of Daft Punk than to that of LCD Soundsystem, but that's because they are both French and have similar influences. They both like Sly and the Family Stone, Stevie Wonder, Rick Rubin, and Metallica, and they take these interests and digest them in their own way. However, Daft Punk's sound is much rounder and warmer, and Justice's is rougher and more distorted. The heritage of Daft Punk is Chicago house, whereas Justice don't have any electronic background. When I went to Xavier [de Rosnay]'s house for the first time and looked at his record collection, I could find only two dance records: Daft Punk and Armand van Helden. They are big fans of Queen, Judas Priest, and the Beach Boys. And with this background they try to make electronic music.
Heiko Hoffmann (Pitchfork): One of the labels that seems closest to Ed Banger is Kitsuné, which was started by Gildas Loaëc who also worked with Daft Punk.
Pedro Winter (Ed Banger): There are some common points. We are both interested in the visual side of a record label, and we have similar tastes because we are friends. But musically we are not doing the same at all. I'm developing artists, and Kitsuné are licensing artists. Even Digitalism are not really Kitsuné artists. So this is a different approach. Sure, indie rock kids that play techno music often play both Ed Banger and Kitsuné, but that's because these are the only electronic labels that they know. We both make party music. Music for people to jump around to and smile. We are not putting out after-hours music.

pgwp: hitsong: You seem to cultivate a kind of wild-child mystique, even in your appearance. For instance, why don’t you use hair conditioner? I do use conditioner! I’m surprised. You’re the queen of split ends. Pretty much every question Solomon asked deserved the Lou Reed response - “What are you, some kind of asshole?” My Sunday Times game is reading the interview and imagining how...
A Hypothetical Question About Beverages
erikonymous: 1. Abita Amber I guess this is what you would call Abita’s flagship beer, brewed in Abita Springs, just a half-hour drive over the Causeway from New Orleans. This is probably the beverage I miss most, as I know only one place in New York to get it: The Shake Shack (though there are surely others). But even then it’s in a bottle and not on glorious tap. This is sort of a late...

Matthew: not everything on the internet is new!

me: which have largely been pretty recent
Matthew: can I just say this:
Matthew: PLEASE NO AD MOVIE
Matthew: I really, really, really don't want it to happen
Matthew: cos I know it probably won't be good
Matthew: and I love that AD has a perfect legacy. it ended really well. let it go, everyone!
Matthew: everyone should rent the Strangers With Candy movie and see how well THAT one turned out

A Hypothetical Question About Beverages
perpetua: You get to have a fountain in your home that will dispense three beverages. You will have an unlimited supply of this beverage, and it will just magically appear there for you, you never have to deal with maintenance. The beverages will be of an ideal quality when they come out of the fountain, so if, for example, you pick a particular wine, it will not be damaged by the whole “coming...

I think the hot dog eating contest is the one chance the ESPN announcers have to fuck around live on air.
